This class is for those who are new to Yoga or the Iyengar method. The foundational postures are taught and students are introduced to their bodies and taught how to relax deeply.
Students who have Yoga experience are welcome in this class. The foundational syllabus, including Halasana (plough pose) and Sarvangasana (shoulderstand), is taught.
This class begins the work of refining the poses taught in the Introduction and Level I classes. Sirsasana (headstand) and backbends are introduced and students begin to hold Sarvangasana (shoulderstand) for up to 5 minutes.
The Intermediate syllabus is introduced including variations in Sarvangasana. Sirsasana is taught away from the wall to those who are ready hold the pose and balance. Students should have Holly’s permission to attend this class.
Restorative poses soften the pelvic and abdominal organs, open the lungs, and replenish the heart. They bring a deep sense of inner stillness to the throat, ears, eyes and brain and release chronically held tension in the nerves. Once the body is open and the mind is still, the practice of Pranayama lights up the pathway to the heart.
Yoga for Healthy Joints
When we are younger our joints carry us through our busy days. As we mature our joints begin to tell us the story of their well-worn and hard-earned lives. This class is for students of all ages who want to care for their joints and show them friendliness, compassion and gratitude.
